Sunday I left for my 10 1/2 hour trip, and it the only thing keeping me going was getting to a state where I could purchase some boiled peanuts.
I finally got to the glorious mountains. The sites were wonderful, but I had to hurry to get to Highlands for dinner at Paoletti's. {That was part of the reason why I left at 6 am; I heard we had reservations and did not want to miss.}
I decided to let the "grown up's" enjoy their meal with their wine and volunteer to be their designated driver. It was my pleasure.
So I went from escargot and the finest wine {of which I did not have} to down- home country living. That's probably one of my most favorite things about the mountains.
I went from the mountains to Auburn, AL to meet Andrew. We had a nice Thanksgiving playing more dominos and going around the table saying what we're thankful for. There really is so very much. I have a full heart.
Speaking of a full, and in this case, a somewhat confused heart, on my drive to and from the mountains, I had the pleasure of chatting with my newest 84 year-old friend, Ms. Louise.
My friend, Katey, referred her to me because she was in need of vintage clothing. "It just looks better and fits better", Ms. Louise says. While I agree, I wasn't able to help her purchase any clothing. She talks to me about her time in California as a bible teacher. She talks a lot since she is, of course, 84 and probably in need of a friend.
Katey referred her to me with this warning: "I mean, I can't tell if this woman is just wonderful and sweet or kind of crazy. You may want to call from a blocked # or a pay phone... she might call you back, who knows...she is so sweet but I think she likes having people to talk to. Just tread lightly.... I told her about your business and that you sold vintage jewelry and might have some vintage clothing shop recommendations. She can't wait to talk to you. She said she is up early in the morning, so maybe you can call her then? Maybe it will turn into a Tuesdays with Morrie type thing..."
Katey, you are correct on all your assumptions, a little crazy but I think it has turned into a Tuesdays with Morrie type thing. She wanted me to read Psalm 91, then we would discuss it the next time we chat.
I love the unpredictable nature of life.
This story is to be continued...
YES. and YES. I love where this is going. What are you doing for her for Christmas, and how long until you go for a visit? It's like E-Harmony (E stands for Elderly).
ReplyDeleteShe and Whit can stay up and talk and talk and talk until their bedtime (8:30pm)...
