The jambalaya lesson recap

If you recall, I told you that Andrew wanted to do a blog post about his first time making jambalaya. Well, he has realized that blogging can be somewhat time consuming, especially if you're not used to churning out these little anecdotes on a weekly basis.

So he asked me to tell the story. Here goes.

It started when we moved to Louisiana (back to Louisiana, for me). Andrew was enjoying the culture, as was I. We took cajun dance lessons, ate good food, and gained some weight. Andrew had mentioned he'd love to learn how to make jambalaya. That was to be "his thing." His brother had BBQ. There's no competing with that. But the title of "expert jambalaya maker" was up for grabs, and Andrew wanted that to be his.

So February rolled around, and I wanted to get Andrew a Valentine's Day "happy." We're not big into spending big bucks on V day, but I thought it would be nice and thoughtful to give him jambalaya cooking lessons. So I did.

And last weekend, we finally made it happen.

Our friend, Mr. Larry, taught Andrew to cook jambalaya. Award-winning jambalaya. Mr. Larry is also teaching Andrew wood carving. He's quite the Renaissance man, wouldn't you say?

Look at that sweaty smile!

Andrew served his guests.

By the looks of it, no one's talking. It's because they're eating.

Getting that recipe!

After everyone had eaten, I found Mr. Larry and asked him where Andrew was. He smiled and said, "I told him to go clean the kitchen. That's part of the process that he's gotta learn."

Can I get an "amen?"

After the beer had been drunk and the jambalaya eaten, there was just one thing left to do: a photo shoot for my friend's boutique.

In our group, there were three photographers: Andrew, my sister, and my friend, Sarah's boyfriend, Marcus. We looked legit.

Here's two of our favorites. I was just glad to take a few with sweet Sarah.

Shortly after, we drove home to good ole Baton Rouge.

Until our next country day...
