Well to turn 180 degrees, I was wild, crazy, and out of control on Monday.
What in the world could I have done?
I went woke up early, fixed my husband's breakfast and lunch, and then got on the road. I went back to 'Poleon...to visit my mom....and sew.
Wild and crazy, I know. I'm clearly kidding, but I guess that's what my world has come to: interest in sewing. I thought the day would never come. I'm still waiting on getting that "baby fever" that I'm supposed to have, but the older I get, the less I want any part of that.
That's a whole other topic that I'm not ready to even discuss.
I am; however, ready to discuss the possibility of me becoming more domestic. Remember this?
My first project that I wanted to tackle was making tea towels, and momma said she would help. We sat in the sunroom, where all the crafting happens in our house, and sewed.
In this sewing room, there are quilts, sewing machines, embroidery machines, endless amounts of fabric, and some lazy cats roaming around.
He wants to be around the action, and yet at the same time gives you that look of "leave. me. alone."
So I left him alone and focused on my project of tea towels: I picked the pattern of the state birds.
(I just realized how incredibly boring this is.)
Again, I guess this is what my life has become!
I did a pretty good job for my first hour in my first adult attempt at sewing.
It's a start.
This was pretty fun, and maybe if I keep up this pace, I could have a few done by next Christmas!
The main reason for this post is to describe (to you) and remember (for me) the experience I had. I'm that kind of person: the quality time person, the experience based person. Experience, for me, outweighs the outcome. So if I never finish this project, you'll know why. It's because I don't really care that much about sewing. I guess I just like to be in a sunroom in the country with birds singing and doing something with my momma. And that happens to be sewing.
Beautiful entry. I miss spending time with my Momma. Cherish every minute for who knows when it will be your last. I found your blog yesterday and am officially addicted. I grew up in Mississippi and can feel the love from the area in your messages. You are a true Southern Belle. Loves it!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness—that Aunt Martha's iron on transfer brought back so many memories, Whitney! What a sweet post. The first thing my mom taught me to needlepoint was a tea towel, and I was hooked. I don’t think my husband appreciates the needlepoint pillow cases on our bed like I do, though.
ReplyDeleteI love that your mom puts towels down for the cat! My momma does the exact same thing on the white couch for her big gray baby!
Rachel, I'm so glad you like my blog! Thank you for reading and commenting! Hope there are many more stories for you to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLauren, needlepoint pillow cases would be my Mecca. Okay, that's a little dramatic, but I would love to make those. I love the free flow form of this style; it's not perfect and I like it that way. Glad this brought back some great memories!
I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I can't wait to start using it every weekend! My first project is Christmas stockings :-)
ReplyDeleteMy first question: Is the Carolina Wren featured in your patterns? If so, I'm expecting you to knock that one out right away!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could sew! Dot, my grandmother, tried to teach me to crochet, but I was a terrible pupil.
So happy to see you are having quality time with your mother!!
