Okay, now that we have that under us, I'll go on.
Dorothy and I went to the mall after church a few weeks ago, and during a lunch break at Panera Bread, I casually said, "You know, I've really been impressed with the new collection at Talbots." Dorothy looks up from her soup. She looks at me like it was the most asinine thing I could have ever said. Honestly I regretted those words right as they came out of my mouth.
In response to my asinine words, I think Dorothy said, "Stop it. Just stop."
Keeping with my usual self and unable to control anything that comes out of my mouth, I said, "And Ann Taylor even has some cute things, too!"
And to that, I think she said, "You need an intervention."
And to that, I think she said, "You need an intervention."
Oh gah. What is wrong with me?
After we finished lunch, we did mosey on by Ann Taylor, and to Dorothy's surprise, we both found some adorable pieces! Like this:
They've really stepped up their game. Scarves, jewelry, oversized sweaters...it's great!
Back to Talbot's....Brace yourselves.
I worked at the jewelry store the weekend that Andrew left for China. I waited on a nice man who was looking for a birthday present for his wife who was turning 35. I suggested the sterling hoops with the pretty design. He kept going back to those, saying he trusted my opinion. I told him that I thought it was a good choice, but if she didn't like them, she could certainly bring them back.
Come Monday, a 35 year old-looking lady came in, and told me that she thinks it might have been me that helped her husband the previous Saturday. I told her that it was. She said that they appreciated my help, but she wasn't "sold" on the hoops that I had helped her husband choose.
She tried them on again along with several other sterling pieces we carry. She said, "the hoops just....just...seem a little....Talbot's. Just a little old-looking. I'm just not ready for the old-lady look quite yet."
I gasp.
I die.
It's true what they're saying.
I need an intervention.
I proceed to tell the lady my story. The Talbot's story. The story of how I am dressing way too old for my age, and how friends are even noticing and said it was time for it to stop.
You know what though, I don't think I'm way off. I love a tailored look; sophisticated. And look what I found....AT TALBOT'S!
Move over J.Crew, there's a new store in town.
No seriously - Anna has turned me back on to Talbot's - their look has changed. I haven't bought anything, but we walked in there looking for something and they have stepped up their game! :)
ReplyDeleteThey don't have much of a selection in the store the same style in 5 different colors. I worked there, and it's not the quality it use to be. Talbots is trying to compete with bringing in some trendier styles. I heard loud and clear the customers are leaving they don't like it. Not the older customers either, the younger ones. Talbots is not Anne Taylor or for that matter Banana Republic.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that TALBOTS has resonated on this deep of a level with you or others is hilarious to me. Much of the reason of the blog post. And it is just that: a silly little blog post about the surprising new look of Talbots. That's it; shop there if you want. I'm still thinking about it...
