Carole King, books, and Auburn

The other night, Andrew and I were lounging on the couch when I ran across a Carole King/James Taylor concert/telethon. I just had the best time singing along. Andrew laughed. After James played Country Roads, I allowed myself to bed.

I thought of my mom when Carole King sang because she always feels the need to tell me random thoughts, facts, or interests pertaining to her. {Did you know that Carole King ______. (Insert random thought about Carole King)}. Wow, Mom, I didn't know that.

I don't know what her deal is.

Anyway, we've just been working long hours, lounging at home, reading books, and watching football (!).

Dorothy gave me a book to borrow, and it really has changed my perspective on "God's will for my life." The book is called "Just Do Something" by Kevin DeYoung.

Here's an excerpt:

"Obsessing over the future is not how God wants us to live because showing us the future is not God's way. His way is to speak to us in the Scriptures and transform us by the renewing of our minds. His way is not a crystal ball. His way is wisdom. We should stop looking at God to reveal the future to us and remove all risk from our lives. We should start looking to God -His character and His promises- and thereby have confidence to take risks for His namesake.

God is all-knowing and all-powerful. He has planned out and works out every detail of our lives -the joyous days and the difficult- all for our good. Because we have confidence in God's will of decree, we can radically commit ourselves to His will of desire, without fretting over a hidden will of direction."

Life can be so confusing with all the choices! Discerning God's will ain't easy; this book has helped get a better, Biblical perspective on life, rather than a cultural one!

In other news, we're going to Auburn this weekend, and I'm getting excited about the game. Auburn vs. Clemson. It should be a good one.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
