All in

I really appreciate people who have the mentality of being "all in." What I mean by that is this: a few years ago, when I lived in Baton Rouge for the second time, I had dinner with a girl in my bible study at a local restaurant called Chelsea's. It is one of my favorites. It's a bit of a dive with local art work, local bands, and delicious food. My friend was from New Jersey, but she was so familiar with all things Louisiana. After all, it was she that suggested we eat at Chelsea's. She had just gotten back from a trip with some other girlfriends in New Orleans around Mardi Gras time; they went to the parades, did some local shopping on Magazine street, and were planning their parade day for St. Patty's day in Baton Rouge, as that was soon approaching.

I was so impressed. She wasn't just living in Louisiana passively; she was all in! This applies in whichever city you're currently living. Subconsciously, my friend rubbed off on me as I lived in South Carolina. Sure I had my "Debbie Downer" moments, but I did go to the jockey lot, local vineyards, took afternoon swims in the lake, and frequented most all of the local produce stands. And I dragged Andrew along with me. Or in some cases, vice-versa.

But now we are in Baton Rouge. For me, I'm back for the third time. It's been a different experience with every move back.

I had a sweet moment in the grocery the other day. Sadly, I wasn't in Publix, but I was in Winn-Dixie. Salvaging their dignity, they sell Elmer's Candy. Elmer's is a New Orleans candy company that's been family owned for over 200 years.

I decided to be "all in." I skipped the Hershey's and picked up some Heavenly Hash for Andrew's stocking. It appears as though that Heavenly Hash has replaced all of our fruit consumption.

Ding. You're correct. It has replaced our fruit consumption.

You've got to appreciate a family owned candy company. I know I do. And I am decidedly "all in."

  1. Great post! It really made me reflect on my attitude about living in Arkansas.

I'm going to link this on my blog!
