To the mountains we went

After I worked on Saturday, we drove through the rain and windy roads and ended up at the mountains to see my mom. We went up there for a short, but very nice visit.

Check out this handsome guy.

Saturday afternoon, we relaxed with a drink, and I made my mom show us her prize winning quilt. She entered her "color quilt" into some festival in Franklin, NC, and she won first place in her category! I talked to her before she entered, and she said only the best wins, and she did not expect to place at all; there's about 350 quilts entered. Well she was shocked when they gave her first place!

To continue on with the theme of "My mom is a domestic goddess," she hosted a dinner party Saturday night.

The most delicious lemon ice cream.

On Sunday morning, I, of course, woke up early. I started reading Sean Payton's book, "Home Team." By the time we left the mountains, I was on chapter 12. It's such a fast, easy, great read. Then, Mom and I cooked what Andrew calls a "Paw Paw Lake Breakfast." Everything from Belgium waffles, to crispy bacon, to fresh peaches.

Then I remembered that our friend, James Farmer, was in the mountains, so we quickly gave him a call to see if he could have lunch. To our pleasure, he could! We had a wonderful, hilarious lunch in Cashiers with James, and then we went to see a design house that he had the privilege of having a part in. Take a look at some of these fabulous photos:

Andrew's dream: A drawing room.

Busted: a lady reading up on James.

Around dusk, we packed up and went home. We turned the radio off, and just talked for an hour and a half. It's nice to get ready for our week that way. And to remind each other how many days we have until college football starts: 12!

  1. Fun trip! It makes me SO excited to think about going with y'all in October! We will have to talk soon and plan out some of the details. I've already been daydreaming about the snacks and food to bring. Stephen Small will not be in attendance. I'm pretty sure my mom is going to keep him.

Your mom's quilt is BEAUTIFUL. First place is a big deal! Awesome.

It blows my mind that y'all found James and had lunch. That's too much fun!
